The people have spoken! Over 450 people voted for Pet of the Year and to everyones surprise we had a tie between Keeko the Ferret and Sophie the Cat! After a suspensful tie breaking vote it was clear who won 2009's Pet of the Year - SOPHIE THE CAT!!! Queen Sophie will reign over Pet Source until 2010's winner is crowned in 2011. In addition to having her picture front and center at all four Pet Source locations, Sophie and her owner have won a Pet of the Year Trophy and a $50 gift certificate to the Pet Source! Also give a special round of appluase to Keeko the Ferret for coming in a close second for Pet of the Year 2009! Keeko will get a $25 gift certificate to the Pet Source and has made important strides for ferrets all around the globe! Congrats Keeko! We are all proud of you!    Lastly give three cheers for all the rest of the 2009 Pet of the Month winners! SOPHIE'S STORY Sophie was born on March 26th 1999 and is a 11 year-young pure-bred blue point Himmy with a very sweet but confident disposition and a soft meow. Alex met Sophie at a Himmy breeder's home in 1999.  She was the last of her litter remaining at the time.  Very thin and shy, she was poked and prodded by children visiting the breeder.  On the day when Alex appeared, it was love at first sight and Sophie clung to Alex and said "you are taking me home NOW!" Over time Sophie developed a strong attachment to Alex and became her "guard cat."  She also developed motherly duties as Alex adopted a second Himmy names Delilah.  Sophie "raised" her younger sister.  In fact, Sophie grew up to become the matriarch and the alpha cat of Alex's household and then the Dumont's household when Alex married.  Sophie makes sure that dinner is served at 6 pm sharp and that the other cats groom themselves properly. Even though she is svelte, Sophie has a voracious appetite as she cannot get enough Greenie's treats and bonito flakes. Sophie likes a good scratch behind the ears, a gentle pat under the chin and a fresh catnip toy to rub against. You can find Sophie on her back soaking up the sun during the morning hours with a smile and sleeping on a chair during the evening dreaming about pats and treats she is going to get tomorrow.Thank you all for voting him 2008 Pet of the Year!
